The Heart of Christmas is a very touching true story of a boy named Dax Locke.
When Dax was six months old he began showing signs of being very ill.
His parents took him to doctor after doctor and eventually at fifteen months
old he was diagnosed with AML M7 leukemia at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis,
TN. The Heart of Christmas is the touching story of this families struggle with a
devastating disease and the importance of spending the time with the ones we love.

Candace Cameron stars in this eye opening drama as a work at home mom who is
having her own family problems. During Halloween, she is walking her child
around a block when she notices someone putting up Christmas decorations. She
inquires about it and is told about Dax’s struggle. When she goes back home and
she begins reading a blog dedicated to the story of Dax and his family.
This made for TV movie is a little slow to start, but as it unfolds you
begin to see the loving and heart wrenching struggles that the families
experience. This moving story put me to tears and my heart broke as I
watched this family struggle to understand what was happening to their precious
little boy. I am such a sob when it comes to sad stories.
The movie does have some happy moments though thanks to Dax’s unbreakable spirit and the
eventual realization by his parents that they should “cherish every moment”
they have left with him. When Dax is released from the hospital because the
treatment has not worked, his father puts up a Christmas tree in October to give
his son one last Christmas. As the Locke families’ neighbors find
out about their situation, they all decorate for Christmas too and the
experience moves another family to make decisions in their own lives to slow
down their pace and cherish every moment.
