Why Are Women Given Anti-Depressants To Relieve PMS?

Why Are Women Given Anti-Depressants To Relieve PMS?
Six Natural Nutrients That Can Reduce PMS Symptoms

Nearly 10 years ago, the FDA approved the anti-depressant prescription drug Zoloft for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and one expert believes that’s 10 years too long, especially when natural alternatives have been proven to reduce PMS symptoms without drugs.

“It seems almost alien to me why someone would take a drug to relieve PMS when the drug’s list
of potential side effects – drowsiness, nausea, headache, loss of appetite, anxiety, panic attacks, hostility, aggressiveness, restlessness and depression – are almost an identical match for the symptoms of the ailment they’re trying to relieve,” said Michael Mooney, Director of Research and Education at natural health company SuperNutrition Life Extension Research (http://www.supernutritionusa.com/).

“There is a solid base of research that has shown that women can reduce PMS without taking a prescription drug. In fact, there are six simple, safe nutrients the body uses all the time that
have been shown to reduce PMS discomfort – but they need to be taken in adequate potencies. These nutrients don’t have a list of side effects that sound worse than the PMS itself.”

Mooney cited six natural nutrients that have been shown to relieve PMS:

· Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) – According to a study of 630 women published in the British
Journal of Clinical Practice, 100 mg to 150 mg of supplemental vitamin B6 reduced PMS in
about 66 percent of the women, while 160 mg to 200 mg of vitamin B6 reduced PMS in
about 79 percent of the women.

· Vitamin D – The Archives of Internal Medicine published a study in 2005 which concluded that women with a higher median vitamin D intake of 706 IU per day had significantly less
(or no) PMS than subjects who got a median of the least amount of vitamin D, 112 IU per day. So it’s not just about getting some vitamin D, but rather getting a potent dose.

· Chaste tree berry (Vitex) – This extract has been shown to reduce PMS, based on a randomized placebo-controlled 3-month study of premenstrual syndrome in 170 women (average age 36) which was published in the British Medical Journal. The results showed that 20 mg of chaste
berry extract reduced PMS about 28% better than placebo. The women noted significant reductions in irritability, mood disturbances, anger, headache, and breast fullness compared to the placebo group.

· Calcium carbonate – The Journal of General Internal Medicine published the results of a study that concluded that calcium carbonate could reduce pain and water retention before and during
a woman’s cycle. This randomized placebo-controlled study of 78 women showed a 58 percent better reduction in PMS with 1,000 mg of calcium carbonate than with placebo during the luteal and menstrual phases of the reproductive cycle.

· Magnesium – Two double-blind, placebo-controlled studies published in the Journal of Women’s Health showed that magnesium at 360 mg per day reduced headaches and pain, and at 200 mg reduced weight gain, fluid retention, swelling of extremities, breast tenderness and abdominal bloating.

· Vitamin E – The Journal of Reproductive Medicine published a study that showed vitamin E reduced 15 categories of PMS symptoms. This randomized, placebo-controlled study confirmed
a previous study that showed all major categories of PMS symptoms are improved with a daily supplementation of 400 IU of vitamin E." In all 15 categories of symptoms, vitamin E supplemented women reported 27-42 percent reduction in severity.

“The effects of these nutrients start the first month and generally reach maximum PMS
reduction levels by month three,” Mooney added. “Women deserve to share the fruits of
modern nutritional science and be informed that they can reduce their PMS discomfort without relying on drugs with all their dangerous side effects, but instead, by using nutrients that are natural to the body in the proven effective potencies.”

GoGreen Cloth Diaper Review & Giveaway ***CLOSED***

So I started my cloth diaper addiction while I was pregnant with Sweet Pea thanks to my friend Danielle from Happenings of the Harper Household. I have many different brands of diapers and a lot of them are from WAHM's. One diaper that I did not own and really wanted to try was a GoGreen pocket diaper because I had heard so many wonderful things about them.

GoGreen was created after Leah and her husband had their third child and found themselves buying diapers for three children. Not only did the costs really add up, but they were getting charged extra
by their city for the abundant amount of trash they were producing. They had never thought of cloth diapering before but, cautiously, they purchased some brand-name pocket diapers at nearly $20 a diaper. To their surprise, they worked spectacularly, and were nothing like the prefolds which they were familiar with. "No leaks, better absorbency, they were perfect!- except for the price." It
became their mission to provide quality cloth pocket diapers at an affordable cost. "They're better
for babies, better for bank accounts, and better for the environment. And, dare we say it, they
make diaper changing fun!"

Diaper changing is definitely fun with our GoGreen diaper Sweet Pea loves when I scratch the outside of the diaper with my nails and it makes a funny sound and she just giggles. Needless to say I love hearing her giggle so I do it almost any chance I get. :-) Our GoGreen diaper is one of my favorite pocket diapers. Since the outer on these diapers are PUL they are waterproof and no covers are needed. I love the face that these diapers can be used from birth through potty training.

Sweet Pea seems to be a heavy wetter at night so we typically only use disposables at night on her. Which will be changing here in the next week when we go strictly cloth. I am getting excited about that and so is my hubby lol. I have used my GoGreen at night with Sweet Pea with "no leaks" awesome!! My GoGreen diaper is one of the few that I take with us when we are going to be gone on
a trip or for a day out when I know that leaks aren't needed. It is a great diaper that holds up very well. I love how soft the inside is and how well made the diapers are and how they hold up to being washed and dried many times with no problems.

Make sure you hop on over to GoGreen's website and check out all their awesome diapers and wet bags too!!!

How would you like to own your very own GoGreen Pocket Diaper??

Busy Busy Busy

Wow seems like I've been MIA a lot lately...I have so many reviews and giveaways to get posted for all you... With Bubba being out of school its added a lot of extra running to the mix. With 4-H,
4-H camp, T-ball, doctor appointments, Vet appointments, fathers day, Pumpkin's Birthday planning, and zoo camp coming up I'm one busy momma... Plus we added a new member to the family... A kitten Bubba named Jasmine she was one of two that was left out of a litter that raccoons had killed.

Sweet Pea is now 4 months old can you believe it?? I can't she is getting big way to quickly...
When I took her in for her 4 month check up she had only gained a few ounces for the month. So the doctor started talking about supplementing her and that I needed to see the lactation consultant. So I took Sweet Pea to The Breastfeeding Center for a visit and weighing. And found out that I'm making enough milk for my Sweet Pea so no supplementing :-) I think she didn't gain much because she is a super active little girl.

Bubba has his last T-ball game Saturday which I'm sad to see end, but the boys are in swimming lessons as well now so they will still have something fun to look forward too. Jake is playing softball with our church for exercise which is great! He is having a hard time with losing weight even though we watch what he eats and he is exercising. I have been trying to get started on my sewing but it hasn't happened yet :-( I did however get the material to make me a wrap to use to carry Sweet Pea in. I can no longer carry her in her car seat because it is leaving my arms
bruised. :-( Well that's just a quick update on us Anderson's and our busy household keep an eye out for reviews and giveaways that I will be posting soon.

Want some EXTRA ENTRIES into open giveaways currently up on the blog??  Then make a comment on this post about any topic I was talking about throughout it for 5 EXTRA ENTRIES into any

Cow Patties Cloth Diaper Review & Giveaway ***CLOSED***

Cloth diapers, cloth diapers, cloth diapers I am addicted to cloth diapers! But if your reading this post you most likely are too or curious about them. What's not to love
about something that is not only good for the environment but your baby as well? I did not cloth diaper Bubba or Pumpkin because I was literally dumb when it came to the
point I knew nothing. But while I was pregnant with Sweet Pea a friend of mine starting cloth diapering her daughter and it caught my interest. The diapers were nothing like I was thinking they were; I thought of a piece of cloth, pins and rubber pants. Not these cute all in ones that all you need to do is rinse and wash.

A little info about Cow Patties Cloth Diapers: Cow Patties began in October
2007 when Megan & her husband began cloth diapering their oldest child. Megan's
mission is "to provide cute quality diapers that everyone can afford." Megan was nice enough to allow Sweet Pea to test out of her diapers. I must say that it has become
one of my favorites I love the cheetah print. The outside of the diaper is super soft with snaps. The inside is lined with PUL which makes the diaper waterproof. You would want
to use a liner with this diaper. I usually use a insert from one of my pocket diapers. I
have used this diaper during the day and night and it has held up very well. At night I
just use a thicker liner in it then I do during the day. I have had no leakages problem
with this diaper at all. The nice thing about this is that if Sweet Pea only peas on the
liner I can just put a new one in and keep using the diaper.

Now that Sweet Pea is beginning to be more active it is easier for me to see if the
diapers hold up to not leaking with an active baby. So far I am happy to report that
this diaper has had no leakage problems with Sweet Pea being or not. I would
recommend Cow Patties Cloth Diapers to anyone who likes to cloth diaper as well as
those who are just beginning cloth diapering, because it is an easy diaper to use and
you don't have to stuff it. Which makes it easy for dads, grandparents, babysitters and day cares to use as well. Go stop by Cow Patties Store and see all the different diapers she offers and get one for your Little One today! AND you have the chance to WIN one here! Megan has been nice enough to offer one of my followers a diaper like mine but
you get to pick the outer fabric.

MyBrest Friend Review & Giveaway ***CLOSED***

How many of you moms have a hard time when you first begin breastfeeding with
getting the baby positioned just right? I know this is something I have struggled with
while breastfeeding my last two children. I did not nurse Bubba at all and now regret it.
I was only able to nurse Pumpkin for about 3 months and then dried up super quick due
to working. Since I am able to stay home with Pumpkin and Sweet Pea now I am going
on 4 months of nursing Sweet Pea and loving it. When I had pumpkin I had a very hard time with getting him positioned just right to nurse. I was fearing the same problem
when I had Sweet Pea. I was so thankful to found MyBrest Friend. It has been so
helpful with the success of my breastfeeding Sweet Pea.

My Brest Friend was developed in a “laboratory” of new moms, babies, and
breastfeeding experts who set out to do what no one had done before: create a pillow whose sole purpose was to answer all the needs of breastfeeding moms and babies. Leading this cause was inventor Andrew Zenoff, a bachelor who proved that sometimes the best ideas come from those who have just enough distance from a
problem to imagine solutions that have never been considered before.

To begin Andrew and his team compiled a list of every complaint breastfeeding moms
could think of with the existing pillows that were on the market. The list ranged from
lower back pain due to improper support, to poor latch-on, to babies “rolling” inward or away during the feeding due to using U-shaped pillows. This began a lengthy cycle of design and test, followed by redesign and retest until they had built over 50 prototypes
in a single year. They poked, prodded, raised, lowered, tightened, loosened, shifted and adorned until, at last, they had a pillow that their mom testers loved so much, they couldn’t find a single way to improve upon it. Then, and only then, is when they
introduce My Brest Friend to mothers everywhere.

I was super excited when I got the chance to do a review of MyBrest Friend. Not only
did I get a pillow to review but also a nursing cover and vitamins. The vitamins I
received are Breastfeeding Essentials, Fenugreek and Omega- 3 Lemon Fish Oil. The
pillow and nursing cover are very well made and come in a variety of patterns. The
pillow is very comfortable use. I have Pars defect so not having to try to say in one position the whole feeding time helps my back a lot. The nursing cover is very large
so it makes it easy to still Sweet Pea while nursing so she doesn't feel like she is
trapped under a blanket. (which she hates she always would pull the blanket off of herself) I will definitely be holding onto my MyBrest Friend for awhile since we know we want more children! :-)

Breastfeeding Essentials - which contains 29 essential vitamins, minerals, and herbs
to help breastfeeding mothers maintain overall good health.  Breastfeeding Essentials provides the added dietary intake of critically important, optimum nutrients and health
for both the nursing mother and her baby.

  • Contains the highest quality folate and chelated minerals available to ensure the greatest absorption of nutrients.
  • Over 100% daily value of vitamin B6, B12, C, D3,E, riboflavin, thiamine, and pantothenic acid to help you meet the increased nutrient demands of lactation, enhance energy, maintain antioxidant defenses, and support overall well-being.
Fenugreek - The most popular herbal remedy that has been used by millions of women
around the world for increasing milk production.
  • Research suggests that diosgenin, a natural compound found in the Fenugreek seed, may
  • be responsible for stimulating milk production by up to 40%.
  • An increase in milk supply is generally noticed with 1 to 3 days after supplementation.
Omega- 3 Lemon Fish Oil - Loaded with DHA and Omega-3 fatty acids which supports heart, lung, joint, skin, brain and nerve functions.  They are especially crucial for development of
proper neurological and visual functions in infants.
  • Potent 50% EPA/DHA content: the concentrated amount of Omega-3 fatty acids is well above the EPA/DHA found in other brands.
  • Molecular distillation and advanced filtration processes remove heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cholesterol, PCB’s, pesticides and other impurities often found in fish.

How would you like to own a MyBrest Friend Pillow? Well heres your chance the wonderful
people at MyBrest Friend has offered one of my followers a MyBrest Friend!! How awesome is that...
